Ceska Sporitelna, established in 1825 and headquartered in Prague, is the largest private bank in Czech Republic with nearly 5 million customers. The bank was the first savings bank in the country, but it became a subsidiary of Erste Group in 2000 when it sold 52.07% of its share to the financial conglomerate for 530 million euros. The Erste Group bought up bigger portions of the bank over time to raise its ownership stake in the institution to the current 99%.
